Australia Day Long Weekend
Saturday
Trip to the hairdressers where I tried to have my last bad haircut fixed up and I also enjoyed a half hour massage. By the time I got home I was ready for a nanna nap.
After my nanna nap, it was time to get ready for Australia Day celebrations. We packed up the esky with some food and wine and headed to South Cronulla Park for Jazz on the Beach. We had a big group this year with some our neighbours and Carolyn and her family.
I sat on my blanket thinking how lucky we are to live in this wonderful country and also to be so close to such beautiful beaches.
There were lots of funny aussie iconic looking people. First there were the women in their denim shorts and australian flag bikini tops with a bottle of beer in hand, and a little too much skin hanging from their belly's. A lot of people in aussie flag singlets and thongs. Walking along the mall we saw an intoxicated aborigine calling out that he was a "real Australian" - we had to agree with him on that one.
Another icon of big events is queues to womens toilets. Aghhhh! Well there was no way I was standing on a long queue, so Rosemary (my neighbour) and I just made our protest clear and used the mens..... All the toilets were empty as the men use the troughs. The smell is quite the experience however, but at least the toilet seats were clean as they are always left up!!!
It was a wonderful fun evening, but I couldn't help but feel a little saddened that the majority of people were all anglo saxon and that probably due to the fact after the riots in Cronulla, our Australian's from ethnic backgrounds probably did not feel that it would be safe or comfortable for them to also attend. I think we really need to change our attitudes and be more open minded and less ignorant!
Sunday
Phil went to a friends wedding - (Phil thought the people would be a bit too feral for me, so I didn't go). He was home pretty early, so I maybe it was a littly much for him too.
It was a very warm day, so I grabbed a towel and went down to the river for a swim. The Woronora River was packed with people swimming and boating. It was such a joy to see.
One event I enjoyed taking place was at one end of the park where I was sitting we had a family of muslims enjoying the water and park and smoking their pipes and then 20 metres away there were a group of your Christians who were being baptised in the river. It was wonderful to be able to see two different beliefs living in harmony with one another. It's such a pity in some countries that this would cause wars and hatred.
Monday - public Holiday
A beautiful summers day with cool breezes blowing. Phil set up my hammock downstairs where I just lazed the afternoon away listening to some interesting programs on the ABC and looking out over the water. I was just at peace.
But oh........ back to work tomorrow...

Back to the routine
Well our Hong Kong trip has well and truly passed. Time now to plan for the next trip??
The Bakers visited Sydney to see all the family and have now returned to some peace and quiet in Hong Kong.
The weekend before last Phil and I decided to pack up the boat and go down to the Wonnie.. We had a great day - it was so hot, and we had a blow up lilo and just floated around in the river and went swimming.
I took last Thurs and Frid off work. I spent Thursday being Project Manager to some Korean tradesman who did not speak english. We decided we would get the back of our house cement rendered. The job looked great so have decided to do the whole house. This will start in two weeks time. On Friday - I had dear Charlotte spend the morning with me and then I had a sleep over with her at mums before they flew out the following morning.
The most exciting news I have is that I am getting a cleaner to clean my house. I can't wait. No more bathrooms and toilets to clean and my weekends will be filled with more pleasurable delights.
With the new year comes all my "things I want to do". Of course I never get around to doing half of them or I get bored with the idea and don't start. I am determined to do the following:

- Creative Writing Course (specifically memoir writing)
- Reiki healing course
- Meditation course
- Join the gym....
- Yoga
- Pilates
Phew... Perhaps I should add an assertive course so that I can assert myself to do these...
