Christmas Day 2007

We had a wonderful Christmas Day and Simon cooked a wonderful roast lunch. We got heaps of great gifts. Everyone was really tired by the end of the day.

Sites in Hong Kong

Stanley
We took the MTR to Hong Kong Island then a taxi to Stanley which is mostly occupied by ex-pats. It is a very pretty place with a beautiful beaches. The main attraction is the Stanley Markets where you can buy lots of souviners etc. We had a lovely lunch at a restaurant and had great fish and chips.

Wan Tai Temple
We took a quick trip on the MTR to one of Hong Kongs largest temples where people go to pray and make offereings. The temple caters for Buddhists, Confusissism and Taoism. (sorry about the spelling?). Phil and I went to a fortune teller and had our fortune told. We are happy to say we will be living a long time.

The Bulldog Pub
Yes the boys all went down to Kowloon harbour for a boys night watching a soccor game.

Sha Tin Races
The boys had another day out at the horse races. They said it was much better than Randwick and more fun.

More to come.....

Going Wild in Honkers Bonkers!

We arrived in Hong Kong last week, albeit it a drawn out process. Our Virgin Atlantic flight was cancelled as one of the engines was only working at 75% capacity. I was most happy to be told we will not be getting on this plane, and we were sent home overnight.

I have been very sick with some dreaded cough and cold, so was a little relieved to have an extra recovery day and made another dash to the doctor the next morning for some more antibiotics. Just as I left the surgery, I got the call we had to be at the airport in 2 hours to get a Singapore flight. Panic stations! We raced to the airport and flew via Singapore.

As you can imagine we were very tired, and I felt like crap and was coughing all the way - but everyone was pleased as I had lost my voice so didn't talk.

Our digs are very basic but the rooms are clean and servied daily. We are in a good location close to Kowloon Tong Station and the Bakers. It only costs AUD$2 in the cab. Cabs here are everywhere, however, they drive a bit crazy and traffic is mad. I am used to it now.

I also am used to tunnels and crowded subways. Everything is underground and I have actually managed the MTR (trains) very well. Hong Kong is a busy place with so many people, however, the transport systems is wonderful. All traffic both cars and people just seems to flow beautifully.

The people are very friendly and helpful. You can walk around the streets late at night as it a very safe country.

Just hangin around

What a life!

New Friends of the bush

Well I have made some new friends. We have had 2 lorikeets visiting us for some time and they are now getting so used to me that they feed off my hands and come every day for a feed.

Another surprise we found was a Ghekko in the garden which Kevin was just fascinated with and became very good friends with - take a look at the photos..

The deck is finished

The deck extension was finished last Friday. Phil has had to put up a temporary balastrade as the new glass one can't be done until the new year. This Friday coming, we will also have the back of the house rendered - then we leave for Honkers on Sunday - so all is happening.

Christmas Party

We had our work Christmas Party on the weekend and headed off down to Canberra. We stayed at the Hyatt which was really nice and just down the road from Parliament House.

We were a much smaller group with on 20 all up, but we had an absolute ball of a time. With a smaller group it was more intimate and we all just get on so well.

As usual drinks in the bar and a fantastic buffet feast of food and dessert. We then got the music going. We had more people on the dance floor than when we had a larger group. It was just such a fun night.

Phil and I headed out to the war museum on the Sunday which is just such a fantastic place to visit. They have done a fantastic job and it is full of amazing war history.

Labor's back!

Well elections were last week - and Labor are back in. They better do a good job. So far they appear to be getting on with it and not wasting any time. Workchoices to be abolished first thing.

We had a great election night with mum and Jim with seafood and wine. We stayed up to watch the votes be counted. Labor won in a landslide.

Bye bye Johnny....
