Bulldogs & work

Well I had a tough Saturday night - I had to spend Saturday night entertaining the guys from GE at the Bulldogs Semi match against Parramatta Eels.

We had a corporate box only to have Bob fall asleep from jetlag. So we had all the food and drinks to ourself. Phil was in charge of the bar....

Of course doggies are our life long team. Michael brought his foster daughter Jessw - who was lots of fun. Doggies lost to our disgust, but it was a fun night anyway. Phil and I decided to stay overnight at the Novatel at Olympic Park. Lots of fun.

Trivia Queen

Mum, Jim, Phil and I went out to dinner on Saturday night for some delicious Thai food down the road. When we returned home, the boys watched the footy and mum and I got out the trivial pursuit.

I was feeling quietly confident. Mum started off in front, but soon started to stumble when she didn't know the name of the show that put Claudia Karvan into stardom.... Oh Der Fred.. "Secret Life of Us".

Anyway, I ended up winning the game by 3 chips. Mum doesn't count it as a win as she thinks the questions were stupid and does not think my modern version of questions is at all up to her literary and cultured level. Hmmm.... She should catch up - it is now 2007. She could start with tuning out of the ABC and tuning into commercial televesion watching Big Brother, Neighbours, Home and Way (oh by the way - Kate Ritchie announced she is leaving H&A on Sunrise this morning... BIG NEWS of the day!).

Those of you who know mum - she doesn't like losing Trivial Pursuit. Simon will no longer play with her as she calls him a cheat.

Anyway, it is such a thrill to have beaten her. I've only managed to do it twice. Oh dear - both times it was using my version.....

Road Rules!

Grrrrr - I am voicing my frustation to all you drivers who drive 70km an hour and stick to the right hand lane.

HOW HARD IS IT!!!!! Keep left unless overtaking. This means you travel in the left lane, then when you come up to a slow car, you indicate and move into the right lane, then once you have completed passing the vehicle in the left lane, you indicate once again and move back into the left lane. Now hard can that be!!!

Catching up with old friends

We spent a fantastic evening with my old B.F. Helen. They were staying at her parents house down on Carinya Rd, Picnic Point.

It was my first chance to see their new addition to the family - Keira. She is just such a cutie. She is going to be a real little social butterfly.

Also, I got to see little Chelsea who is now 4 years old and just growing up so fast. I thought I'd bring along a little gift for her. I gave her a little handbag and some jewellery. She just loved it and it was such a delight to see the joy she got from it. I took her to bed and read her Possum Magic (also one of Charlottes fav books).

Well I of course I was a hit. Helen walked passed Chelsea's room later on in the night and her talking to her little toy "Piglet" that she really likes Danielle. How cute is that.... What a little delight she is. Apparantly she has been wearing the little earings I bought her and telling everyone that "mummies friend bought these for me". So cute...

Anyway it was a great night - great company, great food, and two bottles of wine and a bottle of desert wine. Poor Helen had to get up to 2 kids the next day... Phil and I had a relaxing quiet day. The benefits of being DINK's.

Phils Cave

On Saturday I got so fed up with the state of Phil's cave (this is the workshop under the house) that I started cleaning it out. There were wood scraps from his wood chopping, tools from one of the room to the other, scaffolding, plywood, cigarette butts, beer cans and so much dust and dirt.

I worked solidly all day, and was very proud of my work. Spending a day in a blokes workshop I thought I'd relax like a bloke - I got my myself a beer from the fridge and sat there admiring my new workshop whilst blowing all the dust and dirt out of my nose. It was truly disgusting - I also spent the night coughing my lungs out. Anyway all the tools are in place, I've dusted and cleaned the work benches, placed partitions around the walls to block the site of all Phils construction materials, curtained up the workbenches to create a cover as there are no doors and placed a piece of carpet and chair where one can sit and enjoy the atmosphere.

I was preparing dinner later on and could not find Phil - I ventured downstairs, and there he sat on the chair admiring all my work. He could now see through the clutter and mess that he was dreaming up his next big project - "we can turn this into a room" - OMG! we don't need any more rooms. Just keep it a workshop!!! - if anything, a nice wine cellar would be nice.

Budget furniture

Well I felt the urge to buy some stools for my kitchen today - I took the truck on my own and went to Taren Point to get them. I didn't want to spend to much money so ventured to Fantastic Furniture - the name simply expresses what you'd imagine the stuff is like - anyhoo, the stools looked ok. I then went to Freedom Furniture in the hope of finding a bedroom dresser and a spare bed. I'm not joking - the quality of the crap they have in Freedom is even more so crap because of the ridiculous prices. I even had the the guy in the store saying it was crap for the price. I did however, walk away with some bathroom baskets and kitchen ware.

Anyhows - upon going to the Fantastic Furniture warehouse to collect my stool, I discovour one must assemble onself. The first small stool (I got 2 for $49) was fine - the second stool - no screws in the box! Aghhhh. The other 2 stools (2 for $199) far too complicated and I've left them in the hallway for Phil to do. He is a carpenter afterall. I can't understand why we need to assemble our own furniture. You know - you get so excited about purchasing an item and fulfiling that craving need to have something, you don't want to have to spend hours putting it together - you soon get over the whole therapy of shopping for it in the first place, as it then turns into a total nightmare where you need more therapy. Ahhh - what a great marketing strategy...

Anyway, maybe next week I might be able to sit on my stools and eat brekky.
